Frequently asked questions
Does TapFi work with handwritten cards?
Yes — handwritten cards at cafés, restaurants, and hotels are the main use case. TapFi uses an AI vision model that's good at messy handwriting, awkward line breaks, and stylistic flourishes.
What if the password doesn't work?
TapFi automatically tries a few variations: without spaces, with spaces, and different casing. If none of them work, the credentials on the card may be wrong, or the network may not be in range. Move closer to the router and try again, or ask staff to double-check the card.
Does TapFi store my photos?
No. Photos are sent to Anthropic's AI service to extract the WiFi text, then discarded. Nothing is saved to your device or any server we operate. See the privacy policy for the full story.
Is my WiFi password sent to Anthropic?
Only as part of the photo you capture. Anthropic receives the image, reads text from it, and returns the result. Per Anthropic's API terms, inputs are not used for model training by default and are not retained beyond processing the request.
Is there an Android version?
Coming soon. The Android app is in development and will launch on Google Play when it's ready.
How much does TapFi cost?
£0.99, one-time. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads.
What devices does TapFi support?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 17.6 or newer.
Does TapFi work offline?
No. TapFi needs an internet connection to send the photo to the AI service that reads the credentials. That means you'll need another network (cellular data, or an already-connected WiFi) to use the app to join a new WiFi. For most cafés and restaurants, cellular data works fine.
Can TapFi connect to enterprise or captive-portal networks?
No. TapFi handles standard WPA2 and WPA3 networks with a password. It does not support enterprise auth (802.1X), captive portals that require logging in through a browser, or legacy WEP networks.
